Happy Memories Lemonade Stand

It’s hot out. You’re thinking nothing could possibly quench your thirst and give you some sort of respite from the never-ending heat. Oh look! Your friendly neighbour has set up the perfect spot to gather and get to know one another. They’re serving pink lemonade (your favourite!), have umbrellas set-up to protect you from the sun’s rays, and there’s good music playing.

Jolly good! Does it get any better than this? Happy memories are being created, right here! As an introvert, I like to have something in my hands, like a drink or something to snack on, when I’m getting to know someone. It’s too hot out for coffee (my favourite beverage), but lemonade? Oh, yes please! My favourite colour combination is mint and salmon, which I used in the image below, in several variations. I can just picture huge trees with lots of green leaves on them, dogs and kids running around in the backyard. . .lots of laughter, and a cool breeze.

Sigh. I often dream of that kind of a weekend, as I sit here in my apartment in Vancouver. I so crave a lively home surrounded by people I love.  I hope to have my family living close to me soon.

Inspirational Person Mood Board Link Party

It’s time again for the mood board link party! Claudia of DesignClaud‘s theme for October is a person that inspires you.

Mom inspiration board

Like many mother-daughter relationships, my mom and I have had our ups and downs. When she gets “real” and tells me how proud she is of me—and that she believes in me and the path I’m on. . .I can’t help but feel motivated. My mom’s had so many careers in her lifetime, and each time she’s pursued new areas with so much passion that it’s impossible to not feel inspired. Even at the age she is now, and the obstacles in her way, she’s always talking about what she plans on doing in the future, one way or another.

I love this bright blue sari my mom is wearing. This was taken when I was in Calgary in July for my cousin’s wedding. I took inspiration from this sari to put together a bright décor look.

October Inspiration DIY Mood Board Challenge

It’s another month—which means: Mood Board Link Party Time!! I’ve been having fun these past months creating mood boards related to themes that Claudia of DesignClaud has picked. Check out the previous mood boards. This month, Claudia couldn’t have picked a better theme: a person that inspires you. I’ve been able to connect with my family on my mom and dad’s sides in the last few months due to a wedding and a funeral. Those events really drove home the idea of how important my family is to me. Despite the miles between us, and how many years have passed, we were able to connect—and that’s what’s more important.

Who inspires you? Start thinking now and get your post up next Monday so that you can link up!

I’m going to be attending and having a small part in the Vancouver Home and Design Show this month with my Ultimate Upcycle Project—so expect to see lots of pictures of home décor ideas! I also want to take pictures of my city in all its fall glory, too. What will you be taking pictures of this month?

Here is one my favourites inclusions in last month’s mood board challenge, from India Pied-a-Terre:

Dining Room Decor Mood Board—September Link Up

{Are you new here? Read the announcement post of this DIY Link Party first to find out about the challenge}

Because I love all things IKEA, I decided to go with IKEA products for my mood board this month. Since Claudia from DesignClaud selected FOOD as the theme this month, I put together a dining room decor mood board.

Instead of a plain, neutral dining room, this colourful one is much more inviting and just. . .fun! I think I’d be more willing to use this dining room for other activities with these choices.

September DIY Mood Board Theme Preview

Hello lovely readers! Welcome to September! This is my favourite month of the year—it’s getting cooler outside, but it’s still sunny and warm, the leaves are just starting to change colours, and there’s a ‘busy’ buzz in the air with students going back to school.

Last month, Claudia from Design Claud started a new mood board challenge, where she selects a theme to base a mood board around. Here’s a bit more about the challenge:

“Create a color palette and mood board inspired by the photo you’ve chosen. The mood board can be images of anything. Whatever you want and whatever suits your blog!”

September’s theme is FOOD. I have chosen the picture of bruschetta below:
