BC Home and Garden Show Preview and Giveaway

I begin to look forward to spring, when I get emails sent to me telling me about the great things to come at the BC Home and Garden Show. I know I’ll be getting lots of ideas and inspiration for how to decorate my apartment for spring, learn what trends I should take note of and which ones I should ignore instead. I really love seeing the beautifully designed water features and landscapes—they make me wish I had a house to decorate in that way.

Here are a few of the things that I’m most looking forward to checking out this year:

Jennifer Scott, the designer behind the interior design firm A Good Chick to Know (link goes to my interview from last year) will be sharing her love of bold patterns and colour palettes and talking home trends for 2014.

Siblings Mike Holmes Jr. and Sherry Holmes gained a lot of experience working on their dad Mike Holmes’ HGTV shows and through other projects. I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing what they share.

This is really just the beginning – see all the schedules here for the Main Stage, Urban Fare Cooking Stage and also the Vancouver Sun’s Gardening School. I’ll be sharing my highlights during the weekend of the show.

Check out the exhibitors, vendors and speakers at the BC Home and Garden Show.

Karim Rashid Dishes from Inglenuk Design #KarimRashid

Exclusive. Unique. Karim Rashid. All reasons why I feel lucky to own this gorgeous dish ware set. Of all the different patterns and sets available in the exclusive Karim Rashid line of dishes that Vancouver-based Inglenuk Designs carries, The Coup Line is my favourite.  The round plates fit well in my cupboards, and work well with the mint-coloured plates and bowls that I already own.

I really love the colours in the dishes—so bright and cheerful! What do you think? This set includes 6 dinner plates, 6 soup plates and 6 dessert plates. It also normally comes with matching tea cups/plates, but I decided to get the Fusion tea cup set instead. The round-edged rectangular plates and tea cups are a great contrast to the typically round plates. The colours work well together, wouldn’t you say? These dishes have a nice weight to them and I like the angle of the curve on the plates. It’s great to be able to have a set of 6 plates for when I have guests over.

Family Friendly Decorating Tips from Christine Friend [Interview]

Christine Friend is the designer behind Friendly Decorator. She is experienced in family friendly decorating, so I asked her what her thoughts and suggestions are about that area of decorating, but also about a few other topics of interest. Read on for my interview and some family friendly decorating ideas. This was an interview I conducted earlier this year during the BC Home and Garden Show.

A design or decorating project with Christine need not break the bank.  Her philosophy is; a beautiful and welcoming space is dependent on the people who live and work there – not on how much money is spent.

-quote taken from FriendlyDecorator.ca

I recently got the chance to ask Christine a few questions and got a lot of great ideas from her. I’m really looking forward to seeing what she has to say at the BC Home and Garden Show, when she takes to the main stage.
